Today has been an EXTREMELY domestic day for me.
First - I went to the grocery store
(alone...which doesnt happen often)
I went RIGHT after I woke up
before I even ate breakfast, and did some serious grocery shopping...with a screaming baby!
and no makeup! (well, ok, I wore mascara, but that was it!....IT'S A BIG DEAL!)
I came home and tended to my poor sick husband, and poor sick baby.
In the mean time I cleaned and organized, and worked on my recipe "box" of all the common things that I make -- so someday my kids can have my recipes.
(I always say "So when the kids die, they can still have my recipes" ....John thinks that it's morbid, but I am just preparing! You never know, right?)
John wasn't up for much breakfast, but as he started to feel better (yes, my domestic-godess-ness cured him :)) I made him some delicious homemade strawberry and banana crapes with homemade whipped cream for lunch...
(I also made banana-oat bread cookies last night! with homemade cream cheese frosting!)

Who am i!? I know...John was in shock all day
Then a homemade soup for dinner!
Here is the soup recipe.
I got it from allrecipes.com
Chicken Tortilla Soup
2 skinless, boneless chicken breasts
1/2 teaspoon olive oil
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
2 (14.5 ounce) cans chicken broth
1 cup frozen corn kernels
1 cup chopped onion
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 cup chunky salsa
8 ounces corn tortilla chips
1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese (optional)
Directions
In a large pot over medium heat, saute the chicken in the oil for 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cumin and mix well. Then add the broth, corn, onion, chili powder, lemon juice and salsa. Reduce heat to low and simmer for about 20 to 30 minutes.
Break up some tortilla chips into individual bowls and pour soup over chips. Top with the Monterey Jack cheese and a little sour cream.
Finished product (I ended up adding rinsed black beans also)
We are really sick of our "usual" dinners, so I am going to make a lot more "new" things.
Next up....ARTICHOKES!
Yummy!
(They were on sale!)
Stay tuned!
